GS / GL Night Pay
5 U.S.C. § 5545(a) · 10% of basic pay
Most General Schedule and GL employees earn a 10% night differential for regularly scheduled work between 6 PM and 6 AM. It is computed on your basic pay (base + locality), not total pay.
Night differential rules are different for Federal Wage System (WS/WG/WL) employees — use the WS card below for shift work.
WS Night Shift Differential
5 CFR 532.505 · 7.5% or 10%
Federal Wage System employees earn a shift differential instead of GS night pay: 7.5% for a second shift and 10% for a third shift, applied to your scheduled basic hourly rate.
This applies to WS/WG/WL employees only. If you are GS or GL, use the GS/GL Night Pay card above.
Sunday Premium Pay
5 U.S.C. § 5544 · 25% of basic pay
Employees earn a 25% premium for regularly scheduled, non-overtime work on Sunday. The premium is 25% of your basic hourly rate, for up to 8 hours each Sunday (16 per pay period).
Sunday premium usually applies only to regularly scheduled Sunday work. Sunday work that is also overtime is paid as overtime, not Sunday premium.
Holiday Premium Pay
5 U.S.C. § 5546 · 1× extra (premium portion)
Work on a federal holiday earns premium pay equal to your basic hourly rate — i.e. you receive your regular pay plus an extra 1× premium. This card shows the premium portion only.
If your regularly scheduled Sunday is also a holiday, you get both the holiday premium and the Sunday premium for up to 8 hours — each figured separately on your basic rate (OPM Sunday pay fact sheet).
Overtime
5 U.S.C. § 5542 · 29 U.S.C. § 207 · 1.5×
Title 5 overtime is 1.5× your hourly rate. Above the GS-10 Step 1 rate for your locality, it becomes the greater of your own hourly rate or 1.5× GS-10/1. Federal Wage System overtime is always 1.5×. FLSA non-exempt employees (SF-50 block 35 “N”) always get at least 1.5× their own rate.
Effective OT rate: $0.00/hr
Custom Agency Differential
Agency-specific · enter your own rate
Some agencies offer custom incentives, retention, or availability pay (e.g. AUO/LEAP). Enter the rate as a percentage of your hourly rate or a flat dollar amount per hour.
Custom differentials may or may not count as basic pay for FERS High-3 or overtime — check your agency policy.
